The most common cause of tension headaches is the compression of the greater occipital nerve by the cervical muscles. This kind of phenomenon can produce headaches that closely mimic migraine attacks. However, lately stress-related jaw joint (TMJ) disorders have started to dominate as a main cause for tension headaches.
